Every year JCI Calgary elects a new Board of Directors.

 

JCI Calgary is seeking nominations for general election of the 2018 Board of Director to take office for one -year period commencing January 1, 2018.

This is a great opportunity to develop their leadership skills, social responsibility, entrepreneurship and fellowship.

 

A good candidate will indicate:

  • Commitment to the vision and mission of JCI;
  • Ability to commit time and resources to serve on the Board and its committees, attend the annual conference, and represent JCI Calgary, as requested;
  • Facility as a team player with effective connections to networks and organizations working on creating lasting positive change in the community

 

Board members also require:

  • Governance experience, including some familiarity with charities and non-governmental organization management issues; and
  • Good level understanding of organizational development and effectiveness

 

JCI is a nonprofit organization of young active citizens age 18 to 40 who are engaged and committed to creating impact in their communities. Active citizens are individuals invested in the future of our world. JCI gathers active citizens from all sectors of society. We develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to make informed decisions and take action.

 

Portfolio of Responsibilities

President:

  • Be responsible for the well-being and overall supervision of the Chapter
  • Facilitate meetings
  • Manage/develop relationship with the Calgary Chamber of Commerce
  • Correspond with Regional and National on general matters and communicate those matters to the Board and Membership as appropriate
  • Represent Chapter on Western Regional Board
  • Manage votes and issues for Regional and National Convention
  • Coordinate Board Planning Sessions (beginning, middle and end of year)
  • Provide leadership direction to executive and committee chairs
  • Represent JCI Calgary for general and community events as necessary
  • Coordinate the budget of estimated revenues and expenditures with the treasurer
  • Maintain contact with Canada Jaycee Foundation
  • Submit Chapter Excellence Program information to National Office

Secretary:

  • Record and type monthly Board and Chapter meeting minutes, indicating what action must be taken and who is responsible for carrying it out
  • Aid in the preparation of the record of the Chapter’s history
  • Coordinate annual return and all corporate filings
  • Maintain any archives related to the Chapter

Treasurer:

  • Maintain record of all financial transactions of the Chapter, and reconcile to bank statements on a monthly basis.
  • Provide monthly update reports on current bank balance for general and casino account, cash activity during the month, receivables, payables, reconciliations, etc.
  • Ensure adherence to the approved budget throughout the year.
  • Coordinate annual return and all corporate filings

Director of Community Development:

  • Lead the organization, creation and implementation of annual revenue generating community project
  • Use and share the Active Citizenship Framework and other JCI Community focused initiatives and resources
  • Maintain and develop new and existing community partnerships

Senator and Alumni Engagement:

  • Continue connection with JCI Calgary’s Alumni and invite them to certain events

Director of Training:

  • Coordination of all training opportunities, monthly or one-time.
  • Organize the Effective Speaking Training and Competition (if required)
  • Inform membership of training opportunities for the year.
  • Create/Maintain database of trainers.
