Meet the Board of Directors

Kaitlyn Paltiel – President

Kaitlyn was encouraged to join JCI in 2018 by a current member and quickly became enthusiastically involved within the club, jumping headfirst into a role as Chapter President.

Kaitlyn is a people-person who loves meeting new people and is always eager to help others achieve their goals. She studied Philosophy at the University of Calgary, focusing on Moral and Ethical Philosophy, and then moved on to the Disabilities and Community Support program at Bow Valley College. She now works in customer service as an Assistant Manager at Alcanna.

Ben Wagler – Past President

Ben joined JCI shortly after he moved to Calgary in September of 2010 and soon took on the role of Treasurer for JCI Calgary, eventually moving into other roles including Chapter President, Past President, and National Vice President.

Ben completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from UBC and a Master of Arts in Financial Management from Durham. He currently works for Scotiabank as Credit Underwriter for Private Banking. Ben greatly enjoys travel, new languages, literature, and hearty discussion. His spare time is usually spent with good friends trying to discover more of what life has to offer.

Ifra Oftikhar – Treasurer

Ifra is a newcomer to Calgary and is looking forward to meeting more people through her involvement in JCI Calgary. She is excited by the potential JCI Calgary has and is very passionate about contributing to its continuous success!

Ifra has a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Finance from Menlo College in Atherton, California. She currently works for Nutrisource as a Financial Reporting Analyst and is a CFA Level II candidate. In her free time, Ifra enjoys spending time with her family (including her two cats Neo and Sora), reading, playing video games, and travelling.

Serge Fenyuk – Vice President

Serge joined JCI to meet interesting and proactive people as well as hone his leadership skills. He holds a business degree from UAlberta and, in spite of having lived in Canada for well over 15 years, he has retained his Ukrainian accent.

When he is not making faces at his small daughter or doing Crossfit, he works as a mortgage professional with Axiom Mortgage Solutions. Reading non-fiction and travelling overseas are also his main hobbies.

Angel Kaushal – Vice President

Angel Kaushal has been a part of JCI since she was sixteen years old. Her passion for volunteer work led her to a JCI Kootenay meeting 10 years ago and she has been hooked ever since. Through the years she has held 3 board positions, including membership director and local president. She has chaired two main events including Memories with Santa – an event that brings children and families together to enjoy time with Santa, making crafts and having breakfast. She has also been a part of many committees and has volunteered at many events, as her love for volunteering continued to grow. In 2017 Angel participated in the Effective Speaking competition and won the local, regional and national awards. In 2018 she attended the Conference of Americas in Miami where she represented JCI Canada in the Effective Speaking competition. These amazing opportunities have inspired and encouraged Angel to continue to be better and to help other become amazing leaders in their communities.

Angel has a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology and is a Registered Dental Hygienist. Her love to help others and for her job has led her to travel to Nepal and Guatemala where she volunteered in dental clinics set up in schools and villages. She hopes to continue to travel to many more countries while participating in other volunteer trips to give back to those in need.

Shane Dorchak – Secretary

Shane has worked in industries from construction to academia, and enjoys connecting with anybody who can share a new perspective. His desire is to help JCI further their mission of fostering healthy growth in our Calgary community.

Shane is pursuing a degree in civil engineering from the University of Calgary. When not studying, he enjoys helping build a car with the Schulich off-road team, keeping up to date with advancements in machine learning, and honing his calligraphy skills.
