Meet the Board of Directors
Ben Wagler – President
Ben joined JCI shortly after he moved to Calgary in September of 2010 and soon took on the role of Treasurer for JCI Calgary, eventually moving into other roles including Chapter President, Past President, and National Vice President.
Ben completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from UBC and a Master of Arts in Financial Management from Durham. He currently works for Scotiabank as Credit Underwriter for Private Banking. Ben greatly enjoys travel, new languages, literature, and hearty discussion. His spare time is usually spent with good friends trying to discover more of what life has to offer.
Annick Kabeya – Past President
After serving as a Vice President, Annick was voted as JCI Calgary 2017 President. Annick is a graduate from the University of Calgary and work for one of most prominent real estate research and advisory firm. Annick is a dedicated steward of life and enjoy learning. She believes in leading by grace. As the President of JCI Calgary Annick is responsible for the well-being and overall supervision of the Chapter provide guidance to the chapter and to serve JCI’s Calgary’s Members.
Ifra Oftikhar – Treasurer
Ifra is a newcomer to Calgary and is looking forward to meeting more people through her involvement in JCI Calgary. She is excited by the potential JCI Calgary has and is very passionate about contributing to its continuous success!
Ifra has a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Finance from Menlo College in Atherton, California. She currently works for Nutrisource as a Financial Reporting Analyst and is a CFA Level II candidate. In her free time, Ifra enjoys spending time with her family (including her two cats Neo and Sora), reading, playing video games, and travelling.
Raza Anees – Vice President Internal
Raza is an avid technology enthusiast and experienced in organizational operations. He is excited to further develop relationships with Calgary’s up-and-coming business community and help young leaders develop their skills.
Raza holds a BSc. In Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary and currently works at ATCO as Technology Lead of the Strategic Initiatives team and Business Analyst of ATCO Frontec. In his free time, Raza keeps up-to-date on developments in Artificial Intelligence including self-driving cars, autonomous drones, and bots that help you take the perfect selfie.
As Vice President Internal, Raza is responsible for coordinating all Directors, effectively communicating activity to the Board and membership, and substituting for the President if needed.
Philippe Tagoum – Vice President External and International Director
Philippe joined JCI Calgary in February 2016 as a member. In November 2017 he was elected to the role of VP External & International Director in the 2018 board.
Philippe is a bilingual (French and English) IT engineer with over 10 years of International experience. As a senior consultant at Long View Systems in Calgary (Canada), Philippe deploys and manages IT infrastructures for more than 50 companies across North America. Prior to joining Long View Systems, Philippe worked for 3 years at Ericsson France and 3 years at Ericsson Canada in Montreal.
Philippe holds a Bachelor Degree in Computer Sciences and a Master Degree in Information Technology; he is also a registered member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
Sahani Ratnayke – Director of Community Development
Sahani joined JCI in 2014 shortly after moving to Calgary from Sri Lanka. She was the winner of the JCI Canada Public Speaking competition, and represented Canada in the JCI Public Speaking competition of the Americas in 2017.
Sahani holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Staffordshire University and currently works for the Chamber of Commerce as a Junior Accountant. She is an avid volunteer with the Drop-in center and the Leftovers Foundation and enjoys travelling to experience new places and cultures.
Nicholas Thickett – Director of Membership
After over a decade in sales, Nick has come to realize that people are the key to building a thriving business!
He has made it his personal mission in JCI Calgary to find the right people and empower them to build something bigger than themselves. Online, Nick has been known for using a GIF or two. One of his favorite recommendations by a client was, “Nick doesn’t sell dreams, he tells the truth with a little wit!”
But what does Nick do for a living? He helps small businesses take on GIANTS!

Austin Crawford – Director of Training
Austin works with a publically traded financial services company as part of the family business of 20 years. He is passionate about helping his clients exceed their financial goals by providing them with the education, expertise and game plan to be debt free & financially independent.
Austin enjoys playing and coaching soccer, spending time with his beautiful wife Briann, and socializing with friends and family.
As a Director of Training at JCI, he is responsible for booking speakers and trainers, organizing effective speaking competition, and coordinating JCI training courses.
Sourav Roy – Director of Senator and Alumni Engagement
Sourav was former member of JCI Dhaka central, Bangladesh. He Joined JCI Calgary in 2014 and performed the Secretary and Director of Communication role for 2015 & 2016 JCI Board.
Sourav studying at CPA western School Of Business as a Part-time student to pursue his CPA designation. He completed his Bachelor degree from Bangladesh in 2013 and completed diploma in Accounting from Sait in 2016. Sourav like to help the community and to be a part of community development.
Alora McGrandle – Director of Communications
Alora joined the JCI Vernon BC Chapter in February 2012. During her tenure in Vernon she was a part of the teams that supported the Vernon Jubilee Hospital by coordinating and volunteering at the JCI Hospital Gala, coordinated volunteers for the Funtastic Slow Pitch tournament. Was the coordinator for the Vernon Good Citizen of the Year award, and was nominated and awarded Rookie of the Year from her Chapter. Alora moved to Calgary in September 2014 and continued as a member of the Calgary chapter, once again joining the board.
Alora is a Mom to a very active future member of JCI, as her daughter likes to volunteer when she is able. Alora works at a lighting store as an Administrative Assistant.
